Center Security Officer (Altoona)

Location: The primary location will be the Blair Center, but the successful candidate must be willing and able to work at both the Ebensburg and Centre County locations as well.

Employment Time: Part-Time

Hours: 29 hours per week.

Wage: $16.25 per hour

Job Scope

Provides visible security coverage at assigned campuses as scheduled by the Director of Regional Affairs & Outreach. Serves as a first responder to safety and security concerns while also acting as a welcoming, public-facing representative of the College. Assist students and visitors by providing basic information and directing them to appropriate campus resources.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  1. As an essential employee, may be required to report to work during delays or closures.
  2. Patrol and monitor campus buildings and grounds for safety concerns or suspicious activity.
  3. Respond to incidents and emergencies by following established protocols, contacting emergency services, and assisting with evacuation or other procedures.
  4. Use basic de-escalation techniques when appropriate and safe.
  5. Complete incident reports documenting accidents, disruptions, or safety concerns.
  6. Serve as a visible, approachable presence, greeting visitors and assisting with general inquiries.
  7. Provide directions and referrals to college offices such as Financial Aid, Admissions, and Registration.
  8. Answer incoming phone calls and direct them to the appropriate recipient.
  9. Assist Center staff with setup and preparation for events and meetings.
  10. Open and secure college buildings and classrooms as needed.
  11. Distribute employee parking permits.
  12. Work varying days and shifts across assigned campuses.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Good verbal communication skills are required.
  • Experience working in a public-facing position is preferred.
  • Experience in security or law enforcement is also preferred.

Computer Skills:

  • · Able to use or learn computer programs relative to job including Microsoft Office products (Excel, Power Point, Word) and internal systems.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Criminal background clearance
  • Valid PA driver’s license.

Physical Demands:

  • This position is required to stand, walk, sit, see, use hands, reach, kneel, talk, and hear for extended periods during a shift.
  • The position may require lifting items weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Work Environment:

  • Inside duties occur in a controlled climate with up to moderate noise levels.
