Accountant (Johnstown)

Location: Richland Campus/Hybrid

Full or Part Time: Full-Time

Annual Salary: $47,000 – $52,000 plus generous benefits package.

Job Scope

Working under the guidance of the Director of Finance & Accounting, the Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting operations for the College and the College Foundation and for preparing financial statements and all financial reporting as required while ensuring this information meets standard accounting principles as well as state and federal regulations.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for general ledger and grant accounting functions for the College and College Foundation.
  2. Ensures the timeliness and accuracy of monthly financial statements.
  3. Presents the various accounting reports to Director, making suitable observations and recommendations regarding variances.
  4. Prevents inaccuracies in financial statements through strict adherence to accounting principles, internal controls, and policies and procedures.
  5. Reviews financial data on a continuous basis to ensure accuracy and completeness of the information.
  6. Monitors internal control systems to ensure data integrity.
  7. Conducts account reconciliations and analysis and maintains records supporting the accounting function for the College and College Foundation.
  8. Assists with year-end audit coordination for both the College and College Foundation and serves as back-up for payroll, accounts payable and student billing functions.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience, preferably in higher education and/or a nonprofit organization, with demonstrated abilities in fiscal control, and demonstrated understanding of general ledger accounting and financial reporting.
  • Ability to handle all aspects of accounting, from daily operations to complex reporting and compliance.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and ERP systems, Jenzabar a plus.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Certifications – CPA, preferred. Criminal Background Check required.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, frequent sitting is required and the employee must be able to talk, hear and operate a computer. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Periodically, lifting of up to 25 lbs. may be necessary. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
