Bowling

The Black Bears Men’s and Women’s Bowling Teams are proud members of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 20 and the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (WPCC). Penn Highlands currently competes at the Division 3 level of the NJCAA.

Home matches are held at 814 Lanes and Games in Johnstown, PA.

Michael Lucas began his tenure at Penn Highlands in 2016. Since becoming the program's inaugural head coach, Lucas has guided the Black Bears to three Region 20 Championships, with the women's team claiming the title in 2016 and 2019 and the men taking gold in 2025. Penn Highlands has also won two Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championships under Lucas in 2016 (women) and 2025 (men).

Lucas has been named WPCC Coach of the Year three times during his tenure.


Awards & Honors

Penn Highlands has garnered 26 All-Conference selections and 24 All-Region nominees in Bowling.

The women’s team captured the Region 20 championship in 2016 and 2019, along with securing the WPCC title in 2019. The men’s team won both the WPCC and Region 20 Championship in 2025 after finishing as Region 20 runners-up in 2016 and 2017.

Black Bears bowlers have also earned 11 individual and doubles championships. They include:
