Timely Warning Notifications

When a serious crime has been reported on location and is determined by the President or his/her designee that students and staff members may be in danger of being victimized in the same manner and/or location (ongoing or continuing threat), a College-wide timely warning or emergency notification may be issued.

In situations that are significant emergencies or dangerous situations involving immediate threat to the health or safety of students, or employees occurring on location, an immediate Timely Warning will be issued. Consideration of the means and content of notification will be made by the President or his/her designee to protect the victims or to contain, respond to, or otherwise mitigate the emergency.

The President’s designee will determine if the incident is a significant emergency based on the input from the Director of Security & Safety and/or the Director of Facilities Operations. In matters of the Education Centers, input will be sought from the Directors of the Education Centers.

The warning will be issued in the following sequence (on location):

  1. Through college email, text messaging (PEAKtxt), and College website.
  2. The College’s portal (myPEAK).
  3. The College’s official social media outlets.
  4. Notification to the local TV and radio stations.

Depending on the particular circumstances of the situation, especially in all matters that could pose an immediate threat to the community and individuals, the Office of Security & Safety may post the notification on all exterior and classroom doors.

Anyone with information that warrants a timely warning should report their circumstances to the Office of Security & Safety or the directors of each facility.

When dissemination of information is of the utmost importance – this includes crimes, natural disasters, or any event that Administration feels is of importance to the college community – timely notice will be issued.

Timely notice is issued through the PEAKtxt. PEAKtxt will notify the individuals through text and/or email message. Students are encouraged to sign up for this service upon enrollment by clicking here.

A timely warning or emergency notification may be issued in the affected area throughout the campus and also released to Johnstown, Ebensburg, Huntingdon, and/or Somerset area radio stations and television station.
