Why did you choose Penn Highlands for your culinary education?
Penn Highlands offers a quality education at an exceptional price. I was looking for a supportive, community-focused environment, and this college was the perfect match. The support system here is amazing and makes a real difference in my educational experience.

What has your experience been like in the Culinary Arts program?
I am enjoying all my courses, and each one brings something new to the table. The program is preparing us for the future with practical skills and techniques. For example, Chef Dusack encourages us to do our best and be creative. It’s not just about following recipes; it’s about learning to become a professional.
How have your instructors influenced your journey?
I have had several influential instructors. Professor Bukoski in Public Speaking encouraged everyone to be brave and be themselves. Professor Slifko supports his students and really wants us to succeed. And in my culinary classes, Chef Dusack is teaching us the essential skills and techniques that prepare us for a future in the industry.
What campus activities have you been involved in?
I believe in taking advantage of every opportunity! I’ve been involved with the Tea Club, Computer Club, and the Salon Club. I am also a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Student Engagement and Success Committee. I’ve volunteered for college events, created cooking videos, and participated in the Student Colloquium. There is so much more to the college experience here than just classes.
What is the best part about being a student at Penn Highlands?
The best thing about Penn Highlands is the feeling of belonging. It’s nice to walk through the school and be greeted by staff and other students. I enjoy the camaraderie with my classmates and the education I am receiving. The college also provides many fun activities for students, like mocktails in the cafeteria, cupcake day, and hot chocolate on a cold morning. These things help engage students and build a strong community.
What have you accomplished so far?
I have made the Dean’s List multiple times with a 4.0 GPA and was invited to join the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. My goal is to graduate with honors, and I’m on track to achieve that.
What impact has this program had on your life?
Penn Highlands has allowed me to pursue a degree in Culinary Arts, a dream I have had for many years. Going back to school also sets an example for my son that no matter your age, you can accomplish your goals. As I like to say, commitment is what turns dreams into reality.
