Discover the journey of Trinity Hyatt, who found her true passion and a supportive community in our Culinary Arts program.

Why did you choose Penn Highlands?

I wasn’t sure which path was right for me at first. An advisor from my high school connected me with an advisor at Penn Highlands, and every faculty member since has been extremely helpful and supportive as I figured things out. The college has been very forgiving in letting me change my major to find what I truly wanted to do.

What made you decide on the Culinary Arts program?

I’ve always cooked and baked; it’s always held a special place in my heart. After trying a couple of different majors, I decided to switch to culinary and give it everything I had. I was received with open arms and found an environment where I could easily become comfortable to learn and grow.

How have your instructors influenced your journey?

Michaela Long was extremely helpful in helping me find my way, and I am forever grateful for her. In my first semester in the Culinary Arts program, Chef John was also extremely supportive. He made it very easy to learn new things.

What are some of the best things about attending Penn Highlands?

It’s very affordable, and the campus is easy to navigate. I work while going to school, so I appreciate that Penn Highlands offers classes at a lower cost than other colleges. It makes a big difference.

What are your future plans after graduation?

I don’t know for certain, but I might look into getting a business degree a bit later. My goal is to try my luck at starting my own restaurant or bakery someday.

What impact has this program had on your life?

It’s had a huge impact on who I am today. Finding the Culinary Arts program helped me discover what I am truly passionate about. It’s important to spend your life doing something that makes you happy.

What advice would you share with other students?

Don’t be fooled into thinking you have to have your entire life figured out before you graduate high school. If you change your mind, that’s okay. You’re still young and are allowed to.
