The Pharmacy Technician provides confidence in giving assistance to Registered Pharmacists in a variety of tasks involving the preparation, packaging, distribution, labeling, and recording of drugs. Students are prepared for all roles in a pharmacy, including billing, maintenance of stock, computer data entry, legal and ethical guidelines, and professionalism.
The certificate prepares individuals for becoming a pharmacy technician and other roles of supportive personnel in hospital and community pharmacies. After graduating and completing two clinical internships, you will be able to enter the pharmaceutical profession as a highly-skilled professional, able to handle a multitude of tasks and issues. Students in the Pharmacy Technician program will use PioneerRx to gain hands-on experience using professional pharmacy software. Students will learn a broad range of skills, which include interpreting prescription orders, entering data for preparation of prescriptions, maintaining patient profiles, accessing information about the patient’s drug history, and maintaining the drug database. They will also learn how to check for drug interactions, enter and screen for patient allergies, enter patient insurance information, and use computer software to assist the pharmacist in making clinical decisions regarding drug therapy. Note: Upon satisfactory completion of the program, students are eligible to apply and take a national Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam. Satisfactory completion of this program increases the possibility of passing the certification exam, but does not guarantee a passing grade.
