Target date for applications was September 4th, 2019.

The Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Dr. Steve Nunez has been appointed and will serve as the fifth President of Penn Highlands, effective January 6, 2020. The Board welcomes Dr. Nunez’s leadership as we enter a new chapter at Penn Highlands Community College. Dr. Nunez brings a deep personal and professional background in community college education, along with an engaging personality and enthusiasm for the position.
Currently, Dr. Nunez is Vice President of Academics and Student Services at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Illinois. During his 23-year career in higher education, Dr. Nunez has served as a faculty member and senior administrator where he supervised multiple and diverse areas of Sauk Valley Community College. Dr. Nunez earned a Doctorate of Education in Community College Leadership from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan; a Master of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia; and an Associate of Science from Southwest Virginia Community College in Cedar Bluff, Virginia.

The Board of Trustees would like to share our wholehearted appreciation to every member of the Presidential Search Committee and the Penn Highlands Community College staff, faculty, students, and administration who put in their time and dedication on behalf of the Institution. The comments and participation in the forums were carefully considered and valued by the Board.

The Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the selection of three finalists for the presidency of Pennsylvania Highlands Community College. The strong reputation that the college holds has allowed for a robust and deep candidate pool from all parts of the country.
The following three candidates have been selected as finalists for the presidential search (in alphabetical order):
Scott E. Behrens, Ph.D., is former Vice President of Teaching and Learning at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville, FL. He had previously served as Dean of Academic Affairs at Hillsborough Community College in Plant City, FL. Dr. Behrens earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Psychology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL; a Master of Arts in Human Development/Educational Psychology from the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ; and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Western Maryland College in Westminster, MD.
Ted A. Lewis, Ed.D., is Provost of Bluefield State College in Bluefield, WV. He previously served as Vice President of Academic Affairs/Chief Academic Officer at Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville, TN. Dr. Lewis earned a Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Administration, Community College Leadership Program, at The University of Texas at Austin in Austin, TX; a Master of Science in Political Science from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX; and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, TX.
Steve C. Nunez, Ed.D., is Vice President of Academics and Student Services at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, IL. He previously served as Vice President of Research, Planning and Information Affairs at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, IL. Dr. Nunez earned a Doctorate of Education in Community College Leadership at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI; a Master of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Science in Biology from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA; and an Associate of Science from Southwest Virginia Community College in Cedar Bluff, VA.
Each presidential finalist will participate in open forums, in which everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. These forums are open to all faculty, administrators, staff, students, and the general public. There will be a brief introduction of each candidate, followed by a question and answer session. Feedback forms will be provided to all who attend, and the completed forms will be collected at the end of each forum and given to the Board of Trustees for review.

The Presidential Search Committee will have a significant role in finding Penn Highlands’ new president.
The Presidential Search Committee will be responsible for reviewing the confidential applications, interviewing semifinalists, and identifying the final candidates to submit to the Penn Highlands Board of Trustees for approval.
The committee consists of representatives from across the College, including the Board, employee groups, students, and community members. The members of the Presidential Search Committee are:
