Instructional Designer

Job Scope 

In support of the College’s strategic initiative of developing an online campus, the Instructional Designer will be responsible for assisting faculty in the design of quality online courses. The individual will oversee the online course development process, providing guidance and recommendations related to instructional design, academic technologies, and accessibility issues.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  1. Manage online course development process for new online courses and programs in a learning environment that may also include asynchronous learning.
  2. Assist faculty in re-designing existing courses by incorporating best learning practices and appropriate methodologies.
  3. Work with faculty to ensure online course materials comply with accessibility requirements.
  4. Collaborate with the Information and eLearning Librarian to develop and revise training materials for faculty on best practices in instructional design, academic technologies, and accessibility issues.
  5. Conduct faculty workshops.
  6. Work with the Dean of Faculty and Adjunct Faculty Coordinator to ensure that courses are updated each semester.
  7. Support adoption of open educational resources in courses.
  8. Develop and maintain records and reports.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Education: Master’s degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or related field from an accredited institution.

Experience & Knowledge: Minimum of three years’ instructional design experience required. Online course teaching experience is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of accessibility requirements for online course materials.

Computer Skills: MS Office, learning management systems (e.g. Schoology, Canvas); visual presentation software (e.g. Camtasia); graphics software (e.g. Photoshop); digital audio/video processing and editing; multimedia software (e.g. Flash, iMovie,); and other instructional support tools (e.g. html, JavaScript).

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: PA Criminal Background Check, Driver’s License

Physical Demands: Frequent sitting. Must be able to talk, hear, and operate a computer. Occasional lifting up to 10 lbs. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work Environment: Typical office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level.
