Have you always wanted to work with animals, but didn’t know how to get your foot in the door? Learn the ins and outs of working as an Assistant in a small animal veterinary hospital. Topics include animal restraint, contagious diseases, vaccination schedules, parasitology, wound care, giving injections and oral medications, monitoring anesthesia, assisting with surgery, common medications, basic nutrition, raising orphaned puppies and kittens, and client relations. This course will include wet labs as well as lectures and exams. Mastery of these skills will prepare you to apply for jobs at veterinary hospitals. A clinical rotation at Johnstown Veterinary Associates is also included in the program. Note: This program does not include a national or state certification.
