The Johnstown Area Genealogical and Historical
Society was founded in 1980. Originally named the
Windber-Johnstown Area Genealogical Society the
mission of the organization is to provide access to
materials on the history of the region and to enable
members to research their family backgrounds and
trace their roots.
The Society maintains a collection of materials
that are available in the Library at the
Pennsylvania Highlands Community College's Richland
location. Materials include family histories, U.S.
Census records for Cambria and some surrounding
counties, The Johnstown Democrat
on microfilm from 1853 to 1935 and online
genealogical databases.
