Accelerated College Education Students

Did you know that as a student in the Accelerated College Education (ACE) Program that you are entitled to use all of Pennsylvania Highlands’ Library resources?  Any student enrolled in ACE can come to the College  Library to use our print materials or our online resources. You can also use our online resources from home. Likewise, if you’re struggling with one of the College courses in which you are enrolled you can request a tutor for help.

What is available? How do I use the resources?

Online library instruction

The Library has lots to offer students. In addition to all of our print materials we offer a large selection of online databases:

· Ebscohost (21 individual databases)

· WilsonWeb (12 individual databases)

· Credo Reference

· ProQuest (2 individual databases)

· News Bank

· Lexis-Nexis (6 individual databases)

· Salem Literature

To access the online databases from home, you need to send an email to the Library at library@pennhighlands.edu and request the passwords. You must be a currently registered student to receive the passwords.

Students can check out materials from the Library. Students will need to bring a photo identification with them in order to register. Materials are checked out for a period of two weeks with the ability to be renewed for an additional two weeks. Books or DVDs can be returned to any of the College's locations.

The Library has an online library instruction program called PHILLIP (Pennsylvania Highlands Information Literacy Library Instruction Program.)  PHILLIP is a series of self-directed tutorials that will help you use all of the Library online resources including the Library catalog and online databases.

You are able to access PHILLIP from the Library’s webpage under the link, “Student Resources” You are able to work through the tutorials as often as you need to. Also on the Library Instruction page are links to MLA and APA style guides, help on organizing a research paper, and guides to avoiding plagiarism.

The bibliography tool, Bedford Bibliographer, will help you organize your research and provides you with an easy way to set up a citation page according to either MLA or APA style.
