Vice President for Advancement and External Relations
Pennsylvania Highlands Community College is currently accepting applications for the position of Vice President for Advancement and External Relations. The Vice President for Advancement and External Relations reports to the College President and responsibilities include the coordination of all aspects of fund raising for the College. This person manages the College’s relationships with local, county, state, and federal elected officials, including both political and financial support for the College. The Vice President for Advancement and External Relations is the public relations officer for the College and is the point of contact for media. The Vice President for Advancement and External Relations will design, implement, and manage a comprehensive development plan aligned with the College's mission, vision, and goals; focus the development plan on expanded and enhanced private, corporate, and foundation relationships; work on a regular basis with the President to develop an integrated and prioritized set of fundraising goals and initiatives; and work closely with leadership of the College Foundation to ensure participation in and support of the comprehensive development plan. The Vice President for Advancement for External Relations will also serve as the College’s grant administrator, coordinating all major grant activities of the College and reviewing grant applications from all departments to determine whether they fit the College’s mission, vision, and goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Establishes, directs and is accountable for fundraising and alumni development goals and objectives including: administration of capital and annual fund campaigns; alumni donor records; planned giving programs; prospect/donor research, cultivation, recognition and stewardship; gift processing and records; resource allocation; and comprehensive and integrated operations and systems needed to support these functions. Oversees the planning and execution of special events to raise funds from various constituencies.
- Coordinates all major grant activities of the College and reviewing grant applications from all departments to determine whether they fit the College’s mission, vision, and goals.
- Designs, implements, and manages the College’s relationships with local, county, state, and federal elected officials, including both political and financial support for the College.
- Coordinates activities necessary to maximize an effective external relations program for the College. Prepares press releases. Serves as spokesperson and media liaison.
- Works closely with the College President on all fundraising directives and activities. Participates in the preparation of one- and five-year strategic plans.
- Oversees all activities of Pennsylvania Highlands Community College Foundation including meetings of the Foundation Board and its committees, determining agendas, sending notices and overseeing all arrangements.
- Works collaboratively with diverse populations including college faculty and staff, Foundation members, political leaders, representatives of business and industry, government agencies and other community groups.
- Serves on College committees and represents the College to community groups, alumni, and others in order to develop and maintain effective working and collaborative relationships.
- Advises College President in developing institutional development policies. Assists College Trustees, President, Vice Presidents, Deans, and others with development responsibilities.
- Prepares and monitors the budget for the Development Department and the Foundation.
- Prepares appropriate statistical reports on all fundraising, development, and alumni activities.
- Administers Foundation scholarships including maintaining up-to-date scholarship information reports.
- Seeks innovation for continuous improvement and facilitates multiple tasks and projects.
- Supervises staff hiring, professional development and training, and performance evaluation.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability and endurance necessary to work the hours needed to complete the job.
- Attendance at all mandatory meetings.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree required (master’s degree preferred); 5 years of significant experience in professional fundraising activities and campaign management, encompassing goal setting, planning and implementing strategies, identifying new donors, and soliciting gifts; in higher education or a non-profit organization. Exceptional skills in public relations, interpersonal communication, goal setting and problems solving. The ability and confidence to develop and nurture relationships with established and prospective donors, including individuals, businesses, and foundations.
Language Skills: Proficient in English language. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Very High Skills: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills: Skilled in use of PC and Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Criminal Background Clearance. Valid Driver’s License.
Other Qualifications: Experience in managing a professional staff, with a commitment to being a team member as well as the leader. Strong Leadership skills grounded in shared governance meshed with innovative and entrepreneurial skills. Ability to identify and manage multiple priorities. Strong knowledge of the cultivation and solicitation process. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Willingness to travel as necessary. Ability to commit to shared form of governance that seeks values and opinions of others.

The work environment varies as this position requires a significant amount travel to and time at other business offices, meetings, events, etc. The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet to moderate with a regulated climate.
