Security and Safety Officer One (1) Casual Part-Time Position

Pennsylvania Highlands Community College is currently accepting applications for the position of Security and Safety Officer, Casual Part-Time.  Under the supervision of the Security and Safety Manager, the incumbent provides security for faculty, staff, students, and visitors; remains alert to emergency situations and provides first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral if required; patrols College facilities; and enforces laws and College procedures.  This position will be a fill-in for vacations, absence and extra needs.  There is no guarantee of hours.

 Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.

 Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED required; one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Able to use computer programs relative to job including Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and internal systems. Current Driver's License, Act 235 Certification, and Act 34 and 151 Clearances.  Thorough knowledge of applicable public safety codes.  Ability to respond to emergency call in.  Ability to work a varied/flex schedule to accommodate special situations.  This position requires ability to stand, walk, sit, see, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, talk, and hear on a regular, ongoing basis.  The position requires occasional lifting up to 40 pounds.  This position requires both inside and outside work.  Therefore, there can be exposure to varying outdoor weather conditions including occasional extreme heat or cold.  Inside duties are in a controlled climate with moderate noise levels.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Respond to emergency and security and safety related situations at any College location at any time.

  • Investigate crimes committed on College properties and inform the appropriate College constituents.

  • Compile incident reports for accidents, safety and security occurrences.

  • Distribute parking tags and identification cards.

  • Patrols and monitors campus buildings, opening and securing classrooms as needed on a daily basis, examining doors and windows to ensure security.

  • Patrols and monitors assigned parking areas to provide public security and assistance.  Issue parking citations to persons in violation of motor vehicle regulations established by the college.

  • Assist in the evacuation and lockdown procedures during the course of a fire alarm or lockdown

  • Monitors campus for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities.

  • Ability and endurance necessary to work the hours needed to complete the job.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Safety and Security Manager.
