Instructor/Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education (pending budget approval)
The Instructor or Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education is responsible for providing leadership and high quality instruction in Early Childhood Education. Serving as the Early Childhood Education Coordinator, he or she will also apply significant intellectual and leadership skills to facilitate the continuing development and growth of the program, student learning and learning outcomes assessment; provide academic/career advising; engage in on-going professional development; and provide meaningful college and community service as outlined in the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The normal teaching load is 15 credit hour equivalents per semester in Early Childhood Education, Teacher Education, and related courses as qualifications and needs warrant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- In cooperation with other faculty, the administration, and community stakeholders, develops and implements courses and curricula that meet the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and is consistent with the College, Middle States accreditation, and state study and curriculum guidelines. In order to maximize student achievement, faculty will assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals and objectives.
- Participates in start-up activities, Graduation and Academic Honors recognition ceremonies.
- Plans and employs a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities which are compatible with the physical facility but serves the needs and capabilities of the students. In order to provide a general environment conducive to the learning process, the faculty member will participate in the management of the behaviors of learners in the classroom and participate in the management of student behavior in other parts of the campus.
- Communicates to students (either in writing or verbally) instructional expectations, student progress or lack of progress.
- Actively participates in and works with college personnel in planning effective instructional goals, objectives, methods and curriculum. Exhibits a commitment and ability to participate in professional development activities and engage in professional, college, and community service.
- Provides academic support and advising to students including establishing and maintaining a schedule of office hours at times convenient to students.
- Participates in college governance by serving on a committee or committees which may include joint, standing, ad hoc, college, division and discipline committees.
- Participates in the recruitment, hiring and orientation of new faculty through participation on search committees and related division or departmental activities.
- Participates in the planning, development and ongoing work of affiliated partnerships, including the establishment of an Advisory Committee.
- Participates in professional growth and development activities including staff meetings, and in-service and staff development activities.
- Assists in the documentation of student progress by efficiently maintaining and submitting appropriate records and reports.
- Participates in ensuring that the classroom or instructional environment is healthful and safe and generally conducive to learning.
- Participates and belongs to educational/professional associations. Participates in their activities within the scope of available funding.
- Takes attendance and keeps attendance registers, according to college policy
- Has the ability and endurance necessary to work the hours needed to complete the job.
- Meets Collective Bargaining Agreement requirements for job duties and attendance.

Education and/or Experience: Preferred Education and Experience: Doctoral degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field. Documented successful employment in a leadership position in Early Childhood is desired. An earned doctorate or a master’s degree with three years full-time higher education teaching experience is required for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor. Minimum Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field. Documented successful employment in a leadership position in Early Childhood is desired.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to demonstrate effective teaching, learning and advising strategies. Knowledge of and experience with a variety of instructional technologies. Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to establish positive relationships with students, faculty and staff.
Mathematical Skills: Basic Skills, i.e. ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills: Knowledge and experience with applicable PC hardware and software including the Microsoft Office suite, e-mail, and internet browser. Ability to apply innovative technologies and strategies to enhance student learning.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Criminal Background Clearance.
Other Qualifications: Knowledge of and commitment to the community college mission. Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body. Willingness to teach day, evening, weekend classes. Knowledge of new Pennsylvania Department of Education Teacher Certification guidelines and the Office of Child Development and Early Learning programs.
