Assistant to the Vice President for Student Services

Pennsylvania Highlands Community College is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant to the Vice President for Student Services.  This is an administrative confidential position in the Office of the Vice President for Student Services and Institutional Advancement with responsibility to assist the Vice President and represent the office as directed by the Vice President.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communication, or related field required; experience in higher education student services (preferred); ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; extensive working knowledge of a variety of software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (QuickBooks, MS Word, Excel, Access, Power Point).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Provide administrative support to the Vice President for Student Services and Institutional Advancement.
  2. Create and maintain a variety of spreadsheets and reports related to enrollment, event attendance, and budget tracking.
  3. Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of events for both the College and the Foundation including but not limited to those designed for information, recruitment, retention, and recognition.
  4. Greet and respond to telephone and walk-in guests, screen and direct calls; and handle routine staff, faculty and student inquiries.
  5. Interact with individuals at all levels of the College and the public. Communicate directives and messages and coordinate with other offices on correspondence, plan development and problem intervention.
  6. Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.
  7. Schedule and organize activities such as meetings, travel and department activities for the Vice President for Student Services and Institutional Advancement.
  8. Work with continuous attention to detail in composing, designing, typing and proofreading material, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with a demonstrated ability to multitask.
  9. Handle normal office duties such as general correspondence, tables, graphs and charts, sorting and prioritizing mail and information, filing, etc.
  10. Ability and endurance necessary to work the hours needed to complete the job.
  11. Attendance at all mandatory meetings.
  12.  Regular attendance.
  13. All other duties assigned by the Vice President for Student Services and Institutional Advancement.
