Dental Assisting

Prepare yourself for entry-level positions in one of the fastest growing healthcare positions. Become familiar with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and obtain training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice. Administrative aspects include the history of dentistry and dental assisting, introduction to the dental office, the legal aspects of dentistry, policies, and guidelines. Clinical aspects include an introduction to oral anatomy, dental operatory, dental equipment, introduction to tooth structure, primary and permanent teeth, the oral cavity and related structures, proper patient positioning, dental hand-pieces, sterilization, and other areas. In addition to entry-level jobs, this course is ideal if you are interested in pursuing a formal Dental Hygienist program. This course is designed to prepare you for the DANB Radiology Health and Safety Examination.

EKG Technician

EKG Technicians are responsible for performing electrocardiogram tests in order to monitor and record electrical impulses transmitted by the heart. These tests include basic EKGs, Halter Monitoring (portable EKG which records activity for 24-48 hrs.), 12 lead placement and stress tests (treadmill). They assist a physician in diagnosing and treating cardiac and blood vessel irregularities. This program prepares you to function as an EKG Technician and to take the ASPT – Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam. This course will include important practice and background information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography, and stress testing. Additionally, you will practice with EKG equipment and perform hands-on labs including introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine, the normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12-lead placement, and other clinical practices.

Medical Administrative Assistant

Medical Administrative Assistants support physicians and nurses in maintaining patient’s medical and financial records. They may also be required to perform certain clinical tasks including: documenting vital signs (e.g. blood pressures, pulse, respirations, and temperature), performing simple lab tests, preparing patients for examination, arranging equipment and instruments before an exam, assisting physicians during patient exams, explaining treatment, medications, diet schedules, and procedures to the patient. You’ll be prepared to function effectively in many of the administrative and clerical positions in the health care industry. This program covers important background information on the medical assisting profession including interpersonal skills, medical ethics and law, medical terminology, basics of insurance billing and coding, telephone techniques, scheduling appointments, medical records management, and management of practice finances. This program is intended to provide you with a well-rounded introduction to medical administration so that you can gain the necessary skills required to obtain a medical administrative assistant position in the health care field.

Personal Trainer Certification

Whether for a career move or for personal knowledge, get all the information you need to become a Certified Personal Trainer. Our course is a great way to prepare to be a successful, nationally Certified Personal Trainer. This collegiate course is for candidates wanting in-depth instruction and hands-on experience with a top veteran instructor to master the career skills & knowledge to be a successful trainer. This hybrid course consists of 15 hours of mentored, online, self-paced lessons and 15 hours of hands-on practical training labs with role-playing drills on exercises, presentation skills, etc. to professionally master the position.

Level 1 – Nationally Certified Personal Trainer: Successfully complete the written and practical exams. CPR/AED required.
Level 2- Nationally Certified Personal Trainer: Successfully complete your Level 1 exams followed by a 30-hour internship that will help you connect with local employers.

Phlebotomy

Phlebotomy I provides in-class lecture and hands-on student laboratory. Topics of discussion include universal precautions and safety, special collection procedures, handling and processing of specimens, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and communication skills. You will learn manual skills to perform venipuncture and skin puncture techniques along with didactic training to assure quality specimens. A certificate of completion is awarded to students maintaining a minimum of 75% in each area measured. Class size is limited to 12 students. Phlebotomy II encompasses 100 clinical hours at a local hospital. Clinical hours may encompass varied shifts: Monday-Sunday. You must successfully complete Phlebotomy I and Phlebotomy II to qualify for the national certification exam application. Hospitals require the following, which is not covered in the cost: scrubs, malpractice insurance, PA criminal background check, FBI background check, child abuse clearance, urine drug screen, Hepatitis B vaccination, and certain immunizations and health tests. The College will provide a photo ID.
