Floor Planning: The Art of Furniture Arrangement[ZHG 001]

A well thought out floor plan can save your back, as well as your wallet. So learn to do it like a pro!  In this workshop, we will study 3 typical floor plans—a living room, dining room and bedroom—and correct them according to the professional furniture placement guidelines.  We will discuss traffic flow, focal points, scale and balance, and lifestyle preferences.  Using architectural drafting techniques, you will complete a scaled floor plan of your own room which may include an outdoor patio, home office, or wine cellar, if you like.   Be sure to bring along the perimeter measurements of your room, including windows, doors, fireplaces, etc and the WxDxH (width x depth x height) of any furniture you plan to use. You will also need a straight edge, pencil and scissors. Graph paper will be provided.

Interior Design: Accessories & the Art of Placement[ZHG 002]

The right accessories, artfully placed, transform a room from simply furnished to finished! Whether functional or decorative, accessories add visual excitement, reinforce a theme and showcase personal interests.    In this workshop, we will focus on the arrangement of decorative objects, reviewing the principles of formal and informal design, the elements of scale and balance, and the art of editing and grouping. Demonstrations will include how to arrange a mantle, bookcase/china cabinet and a wall grouping.  Bring measurements of your problem wall (including sizes of furniture against the wall and accessories that might go on the wall) and create your own custom wall plan-a-gram. You will also need a straight edge, pencil and scissors. Graph paper will be provided.
