College Transfer Agreements

Many colleges and universities have made the transfer planning process smoother by outlining how Penn Highlands courses can fit into bachelor's degree requirements. Here are the articulation agreements we have in place with other colleges and universities.

American Public University

A.A. and A.S. Degree Programs
Pennsylvania Highlands Community College (Penn Highlands) and American Public University (APU) have established an educational credit transfer partnership. In addition to traditional credit transfer opportunities, this enables students who graduate from Penn Highlands on or after May 1, 2012 to apply their completed coursework towards an APU online degree. California University of Pennsylvania

Criminal Justice, A.S.
Human Services, A.A.S.
Small Business Management, A.A.S.

Three program-to-program articulation agreements are available between Penn Highlands and California University of Pennsylvania to supplement the existing agreements available under the Transfer and Articulation Oversight Committee agreements (TAOC). Students graduating with the Associate of Applied Science in Human Services are eligible to transfer into the Bachelor of Social Work degree and other programs at California University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, completers of the Associate of Science in Criminal Justice degree are eligible to transfer into the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree. Finally, students completing the Associate of Applied Science in Small Business Management may transfer into the Bachelors of Science in Technology Management. For more information and to view a copy of each agreement please contact an advisor in the Student Success Center. (Criminal Justice, Established: October, 2016; Human Services, Established: November 30, 2015; Small Business Management, Established: July 2017)


Carlow University

Early Childhood Education, A.A.
Students completing the Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education degree at Penn Highlands are eligible to transfer into the Early Childhood Education program at Carlow University. Students must meet the entrance requirements for the program including maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. (Established: July 2, 2007)


DeSales University

A.A. and A.S. Degree Programs
A student who has earned an A.A. (Associate of Arts) degree or an A.S. (Associate of Science) degree is assured admission to DeSales University. Students seeking joint enrollment will complete both Pennsylvania Highlands Community College and DeSales University applications, indicating on the DeSales University application or other specified form that they are seeking admission under the joint enrollment agreement. (Established: August 13, 2012)


Edinboro University

Criminal Justice, A.S.
Students who complete the Associate of Science in Criminal Justice degree may transfer to Edinboro University's Criminal Justice program. Students must meet the application and admissions requirements of the institution. (Established: May 12, 2010)


Everglades University

A.A., A.A.S., or A.S. Degree Programs
Architectural/Civil Technology
Penn Highlands graduates of an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or an Associate of Applied Science are eligible to transfer into a Bachelor of Science degree program at Everglades University. Moreover, students completing the Architectural/Civil Technology degree at Penn Highlands are able to transfer directly into the parallel program at Everglades University. Students must meet the acceptance requirements of the institution. (Established: October 1, 2012)


Franklin University

A.A., A.A.S., or A.S. Degree Programs
Through Franklin's Community College Alliance, Pennsylvania Highlands graduates can continue their education and complete a Franklin University bachelor's degree virtually without leaving our campus. Through our 3+1 partnership, students can transfer up to 84 credit hours from Pennsylvania Highlands to apply toward their bachelor's degree, then complete approximately 40 credit hours online with Franklin University. Franklin offers 29 bachelor degree options to Pennsylvania Highlands graduates. (Established: June 22, 2016)


Grand Canyon University

A.A., A.A.S., or A.S. Degree Programs
Pennsylvania Highlands’ graduates can continue their education at Grand Canyon University either on campus or as part of the GCU Online Campus. Most Penn Highlands courses will transfer directly into GCU programs of study provided the course is a 100 level or above with an earned grade of C or higher and included in the GCU program of study. GCU offers a 10% tuition scholarship for those students who may qualify. For more information, visit with the Student Success Center staff.


Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Liberal Arts and Sciences, A.A.
Teacher Education, A.A.
This agreement provides early admissions, concurrent enrollment, and early enrollment opportunities for Penn Highlands students interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania within the areas of Business Administration and Elementary Education. (Established: November 5, 2007)


Juniata College

Accounting, A.S.
Business Administration, A.S.
Finish with a respected national leader in a curriculum coordinated by Pennsylvania Highland with faculty at Juniata College. Generous financial aid is available for transferring students to help make college costs manageable. When transferring to Juniata, choose from four main programs: accounting, business, entrepreneurship, and an integrated program of philosophy, politics, and economics. Opportunities exist for internships and study abroad. About 40 percent of Juniata's graduates go on to earn MBAs at prestigious business schools such as Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, Columbia, and Syracuse. Kaplan University

A.A., A.A.S., or A.S. Degree Programs
Students who complete an associate's degree at Penn Highlands may transfer into a Kaplan University's "advanced start" baccalaureate option. Students must fulfill the Kaplan University requirements which may include completion of no less than 25 percent of their program requirements at Kaplan. Students must also meet the admissions requirements of Kaplan University. (Established: December 10, 2009)


LaRoche College

A.A., A.A.S., and A.S. Degree Programs
A.A.S. Radiologic Technology
Students graduating with an associate's degree will have the opportunity to transfer up to 90 credit hours into LaRoche College's Bachelor of Science in Leadership degree. Click here to learn more about LaRoche College's Leadership degree. (Established: January 15, 2015)


Lincoln University

A.A., A.A.S., and A.S. Degree Programs
Students graduating with an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree are eligible to transfer to programs in the School of Social Sciences and Behavioral Studies, the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and the School of Humanities. Interested students must complete the Intent to Transfer form at the beginning of their last semester at Pennsylvania Highlands. Mount Aloysius and Pennsylvania Highlands have a 2+2 agreement for the Accounting, Business Administration, Business Management, Child Development, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Information Technology, Liberal Arts and Science (including pathways to secondary education programs of study) Psychology, and Radiologic Technology associate degrees. These agreements provide easy transfer of credit with junior standing and minimal loss of credit. In addition, Mount Aloysius also accepts a variety of Pennsylvania Highlands courses and can transfer up to 90 credits for a bachelor's degree. Pennsylvania College of Technology

Health Professions: Histotechnology, A.A.S.

Medical Assisting Technology, A.A.S.
Penn College and Pennsylvania Highlands have established 2+2 agreements for Accounting and Business Management. Graduates will seamlessly transfer with junior level status. Graduates of Health Professions programs, and in possession of our credentialed/licensed/registered health care area, may enter the Bachelor of Applied Health degree. This degree may be completed online. Graduates with an A.A.S. technical degree may complete the Bachelor of Technology Management degree, also available online. The agreements include additional coursework that may be taken at either institution. Penn College requires 36 credits to be completed at their institution. (Established: June 24, 2014)


Pennsylvania State System of Higher Ed: Program to Program Articulation Programs

PA State System of Higher Education Universities Include: Bloomsburg University, California University of Pennsylvania, Cheyney University, Clarion University, East Stroudsburg University, Edinboro University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Kutztown University, Lock Haven University, Mansfield University, Millersville University, Shippensburg University, Slippery Rock University, and West Chester University

Pennsylvania's Public School Code of 1949 requires the colleges and universities that participate in the commonwealth's Statewide College Credit Transfer System to develop agreements that will allow students to transfer full Associate of Arts (A.A.) and Associate of Science (A.S.) degrees into parallel bachelor degree programs at the participating institutions with junior standing. Students completing the Business Administration A.S., the Computer Science A.S., the Criminal Justice A.S., the Early Childhood Education A.A., the Environmental Science A.S., or the Psychology A.A. will be able to transfer the equivalent of the first two years of a bachelor's degree to any one of the fourteen four-year universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and complete the remainder of their degree program in just two more years of full-time study. Penn State University

Liberal Arts and Sciences, A.A.
Nanotechnology
Pennsylvania Highlands is one of the Pennsylvania State University’s Nanofabrication Manufacturing Partnership Technology partners. Students may select coursework as General Studies majors, Technology Management majors, or Biotechnology majors in preparation for their application to the program. Students complete a capstone semester of industry-relevant coursework at Penn State and are then placed with industry partners across the state after graduation. Click here to learn more. (Established: April 6, 2006; Renewed: January 1, 2016)


Penn State University, Altoona

Liberal Arts and Sciences, A.A.
Pennsylvania Highlands students who complete an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences degree are eligible to transfer directly into the Bachelor of Arts in Letters, Arts, and Sciences program at Penn State Altoona. Students must meet all admissions requirements set forth by Penn State Altoona. (Established: April 6, 2006)


Potomac College

A.A., A.A.S., and A.S. Degree Programs
Pennsylvania Highlands students who graduate with an A.A., A.A.S., or A.S. and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 are guaranteed admission. Potomac College will accept all credits included in the official transcript including credits from previous institutions and up to 30 credits from non-traditional sources such as AP or CLEP to a maximum of 90 credits. Click here for more information. (Established: February 5, 2013)


Saint Francis University

Saint Francis invites Pennsylvania Highlands students to enjoy the benefits of a small-school learning environment (personal attention, interaction with faculty, small class sizes, faculty advising, and the chance to make a difference) at a comprehensive university offering NCAA Division I athletics; the opportunity to study abroad in France; a wide array of majors; a newly-built Wellness Institute; and Schools of Arts and Letters, Business, Health Sciences, and Science.

Students interested in completing the Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Science degree or the Bachelor of Science in Computer Systems Management at Saint Francis University may participate in the 3+1 Agreement. This agreement allows Penn Highlands students completing the noted A.A.S. or A.S. degrees to transfer up to 98 credits into the bachelor's degree program via the Adult Degree and Continuing Education Studies department. Saint Joseph's University

A.A. or A.S. Degree Program
Saint Joseph’s University, in partnership with Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, offers a 10% tuition reduction for students accepted into SJU's online bachelor’s degree completion program (B.S. in Professional and Liberal Studies).  The online B.S. PLS program allows a student to transfer up to 75 credits to finish their bachelor’s degree in a flexible, online format. There are two concentration tracks that are offered. Organizational Development and Leadership will allow a student to develop marketable skills in leadership and organizational dynamics. The second concentration offered is Autism Studies which consists of six courses approved by the BACB (Behavior Analyst Certification Board). This allows a student to learn the theories, techniques, treatments, and therapies of autism. Click here for more information. (Established: September 19, 2012)


University of Maryland University College

A.A. and A.S. Degree Programs
Especially designed for community college students at Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, the UMUC Alliance program provides one curriculum plan for earning an associate's degree and a UMUC bachelor's degree seamlessly. University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown

This agreement allows graduates of Pennsylvania Highlands Community College associate degree programs in Radiologic Technology, Paramedic, or Histotechnology to seamlessly transfer into the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare degree from Pitt-Johnstown. (Established, August, 2011)


University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown

Liberal Arts and Sciences, A.A.
Psychology, A.A.

The articulation agreement between Penn Highlands and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown enables students to transfer a completed Associate of Arts degree into 11 different bachelor degree programs including:

  • Professional Writing
  • Economics
  • English Literature
  • Environmental Studies
  • Geography
  • History
  • Political Science
  • Psychology

Students have the ability to transfer their Associate of Arts or Science degree, providing them with junior status at Pitt-Johnstown. Additional Credit Transfer Affiliations

PA State-Related Institutions: General Education Credits

To assist students as they prepare to transfer, each state-related institution has identified at least 30 credits from the Transfer Credit Framework that will transfer and count toward the general education requirements for most majors at their institutions. Courses listed in the Transfer Credit Framework represent the type of coursework that is generally completed during the first and second year of a bachelor's degree program. These courses are good choices for students who are undecided about the major they wish to pursue or the institution where they plan to transfer. Click here to learn more.

Art Institute of Pittsburgh

The articulation agreement makes it possible for the graduates of Pennsylvania Highlands to transfer anywhere from 43 to 65 credits depending on the chosen bachelor’s degree program at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh providing the agreement’s conditions, policies, and procedures are met. Some of the conditions include having a 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, a course grade of C or better must be earned to be acceptable for transfer, and the student must meet all admissions requirements currently expected of new college students entering The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Saint Vincent College

Saint Vincent College offers nearly 50 undergraduate majors and works with transfer students to receive grants for their four-year education. A course-to-course articulation is available for students interested in transferring between the institutions. This assures that the courses completed will not have to be repeated. Click here to learn more.

University of Pittsburgh at Bradford

Pitt-Bradford has reviewed all Pennsylvania Highlands coursework and makes looking up transferability to their campus easy via an online database. Pennsylvania Highlands' students can plan prior transfer in advance in order to maximize the move to one of Pitt-Bradford's 37 bachelor degree programs. Click here to learn more.

Western Governors University is an online, competency based, and accredited institution offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Pennsylvania Highlands graduates are eligible for a 5% tuition discount and a waiver of the application fee. Click here to learn more.
