Sexual Harassment Policy

Pennsylvania Highlands Community College affirms its commitment to maintain a workplace and learning environment free of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct for its students and employees. No college employee of either sex shall impose a requirement of sexual cooperation for employment or academic advancement, or in any way contribute to or support unwelcome physical or verbal sexual behavior.

SEXUAL HARASSMENT
Sexual harassment is a violation of the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972. These laws include prohibition of discrimination in employment and educational program and services on the basis of sex. The following guidelines apply equally to students and employees:

  • Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for 
    sexual favors, and other verbal and physical conduct of a sexual nature when:

  • Submission to the conduct is either an explicit or implicit term condition 
    of employment, instruction of participation in College activities;

  • Submission to or rejection of the conduct is used as a basis for making employment or academic decisions affecting the person rejecting or submitting to the conduct; or

  • The conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with the
    affect person’s academic or work performance, or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive college environment

Sexual harassment or sexual misconduct will not be tolerated within the college community either in the workplace, living environment or in any collegial setting involving faculty, staff, administrators, or students.
